Jean's Journey of Hope: From Haiti to St. Louis

Healing the Children is pleased to announce that eleven-year-old Jean arrived safely in St. Louis after a long journey from Haiti. Carried by his cousin from the airport to Healing the Children Executive Director Kathy Corbett's car, Jean was immediately taken to Shriner's Hospital St. Louis in hopes that his leg could be saved and hope for recovery realized.

HTC and the children we serve need your help.

Healing the Children is working with its partner pediatric hospitals across the U.S. to secure donated care for children injured in Haiti's devastating earthquake. Jean (featured above) will be one of the many children whose lives are changed with the support of Healing the Children.

HTC Chapters are also in the midst of assembling 8-10 medical teams to travel to Haiti in the coming months to treat those children whose injuries will not necessitate transfer to a U.S. hospital.

Also ... In 2008, Christian and his host family captured the attention of St. Louis' public television station, KETC- Channel 9.

In an inspiring, nearly 10-minute segment, Living St. Louis Producer Anne-Marie Berger shared the story of Christian, a 12-year-old boy born with severely clubbed feet, who after six months of surgery, castings and recovery returned home to the Dominican Republic, finally able to walk and wear shoes for the first time in his life.

The Kempers of Webster Groves offer a glimpse into life as a Host Family for Christian. They offer a shining example of just how integral host families are to Healing the Children's success.
