Healing the Children brings children to the U.S. for specialized medical care unavailable to them in their home countries due to lack of finances, facilities or expertise. Children are referred to us primarily through International Partners and visiting health teams.

Healing the Children's 14 chapters have provided life-changing medical care to thousands of children from over 100 different countries through their International Kids Programs.

Some types of pediatric surgical specialties provided to children include: cranio-facial, cardiac, orthopedic, neuro, ophthalmology, ENT, urology, and many others.

When a child is referred to HTC, we work closely with our International Partners to obtain good medical screenings and diagnostics to help determine if the child meets our criteria for care. Next, we coordinate donated care for the child with our local medical contacts.

Once care is secured, we follow the process to secure medical visas, arrange transportation, host family support read more, translators, and other necessary care for the child while they are in the U.S. (i.e. dental and pediatric care). If a child is traveling without a parent, escorts are often provided by the American Airlines Ambassadors Club. These wonderful volunteers use their free airline passes and time off to travel with our kids to and from their countries of origin.

Medical professionals from various specialties - surgeons, anesthesiologists, pediatricians, dentists, and physical therapists - generously donate their time and expertise to Healing the Children.

Children are matched with volunteer host families who provide the love and security needed to see them through their medical experience. It takes a special family to care for a child who is undergoing complex medical care, away from family, immersed in a new and foreign culture, and who may speak a different language.
